"Moving On" is the twenty-fifth and final episode of Season 4 of Ellen and the show's eighty-seventh episode overall. It originally aired on May 14, 1997 on ABC.

Plot[]

In a show of support, Audrey sets up a lesbian-focused display at Buy the Book. Ellen, though flattered, considers it to be a bit over the top. Her boss, Ed, comes in, notices the display and wants it taken down because Buy the Book is a "family bookstore".

Ellen follows Ed into his office and confronts him, and he tells her that if the display stays up, gay people will start coming into the store. She ends up coming out to him after he tells her that gay people are "just different". He apologizes and tells her that it won't be a problem, but Ellen later finds out that he lied about not going out to avoid having her babysit his daughters because he wants to "protect" them from her.

Ellen ultimately quits, saying that she doesn't want to work for someone that is prejudiced.

Meanwhile, Ellen finally moves into her new house and tries to reconcile with Paige, who's still shaken by Ellen's "coming out" revelation.

Also, Spence asks to stay with Ellen at her new house while he looks for a place of his own.
