Spencer "Spence" Kovak is Ellen Morgan's cousin and a main character in seasons 3-5 of the ABC series Ellen. He is portrayed by Jeremy Piven.
Spence first appears in season three's "Shake, Rattle and Rubble". was training to become a doctor in New York, but got fired after punching a patient and as a result comes to stay with Ellen, where he spends the beginning of the third season bored and depressed.
His arrival in Ellen's life coincides with the aftermath of a large Los Angeles earthquake that leads to the destruction and subsequent remodeling of the book store.
He decides he wants to become a lawyer and begins training for that, but after saving someone's life in "The Pregnancy Test", he decides he wants a career in medicine after all.
Initially, he and Paige Clark don't get along and are barely able to be in the same room without bickering, until Ellen walks in on them kissing in "When the Vow Breaks (Part 1)" and it is revealed that they've been sneaking around for a while. They have their first date at a baseball game in "A Deer Head for Joe" and enter into a relationship, which they remain in until shortly before the end of the series when things end civilly.
